Laundry soaps and detergents work better in soft water to wash clothes to their brightest. Fabrics will come out cleaner, softer and last longer because they are virtually free of soap residue.

Fabrics washed in hard water retain soap curd or residue making them "crackle" when removed from the dryer or stiff if air-dried.
